At the 31st March 2008 the suspension rate for patients on the orthopaedic waiting list at Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust was 22.8% compared to a national standard of 5%.
The Trust have been successful in reducing the overall patient numbers on the waiting list by 849 patients (29.1%) in 2007/08. Suspension numbers have remained at a high number and an increased suspension rate has been noted.
On the 23rd April 2008 the DSU undertook a waiting list review of patients suspended as at 31st March 2008. A total of 30 patient notes and PAS entries were reviewed.
Patient waiting list entries were reviewed for adherence to national guidelines, using a traffic lighting system based on the following criteria:-
Green: Legitimate suspensions adhering to national standards
Amber: Inappropriate suspensions not adhering to national standards.
Red: Inappropriate suspensions not adhering to national standards and were deemed by the visiting team to be actual or potential breaches |
