| Comments: |
The School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (also known as the ‘Wales Deanery’) is responsible for the management and quality assurance of education and training of all Doctors and Dentists in Wales undertaking postgraduate training posts in Trusts in the NHS in preparation for a career grade post.
This responsibility demands a quality management system (QMS) to ensure high quality postgraduate medical training in Wales and to ensure that the output of the Foundation Programme and Specialty Training Programmes is fit for purpose. In addition, the QMS must provide the Deanery and external bodies with evidence of this quality assured training; in particular, for the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) and joint PMETB/General Medical Council (GMC) inspections, to support the Service Level Agreements with Trusts and the Wales Concordat. In addition, the Deanery provides specific funding to Trusts for training grade salaries and for support of postgraduate facilities, and is accountable to the Welsh Assembly Government for the expenditure of these exchequer funds. The Trust Commissioning Visit is one of the quality control (QC) processes employed to meet these requirements.
