In May 2005 the principal external review bodies inspecting, regulating and auditing health and social care in Wales agreed a set of objectives and practices (A Concordat) to support the improvement of services for patients, service users and carers and to eliminate any unnecessary burdens of external review.

The Concordat, which is a voluntary set agreement between autonomous external review bodies, was published on the 12th May 2005.

The Concordat is available to download through the link below. You may need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader (external link) to view these files.

In 2009 and after discussion amongst the Concordat signatories it was decided to simplify the co-ordination arrangements and have a single Concordat Forum which meets up to three times a year.

The Concordat is currently under review.  A revised Concordat agreement and Terms of Reference will be presented to Concordat Signatories for agreement by the end of 2012.
